Pueblo’s Matt Hessen sent out a “call to action” to Pueblo locals in social media and found the support so overwhelming as locals brought in mass supplies to the designated location, Eagleridge Fitness Center in Pueblo, that he soon announced he switched from a 12 to 20 ft “Bessemer Custom Trailer,” donated by Fred Trujillo, for more space.
Hessen is personally driving supplies to help Texan victims of Hurricane Harvey August 31 with Jelsea Layne from Fort Collins, who gathered even more donations through the Fort Collins PD, local gym, ACE Hardware and her local friends.
Locals brought in medical supplies, water, non-perishable, food, baby formula, pet food and toiletries to fill the load and Hessen posted on Facebook saying about how amazing and supportive Pueblo locals have been during his preparation for his trip south, “Thank you all so much for your warm hearts and kind gestures! I know this was random and spontaneous but to see all of you unite for such a good cause is heart warming ❤️❤️❤️ we love all of you and I promise to represent Pueblo and make you all as proud as I am!”
Hessen applauded Pueblo further as volunteers to help him load the supplies early Thursday morning, “I’m seriously taken back by all of your generosity and love and I could not be more proud of Pueblo! Thank you my Pueblo friends, love you all!”
Yesenia M Alvidrez-Reyes posted to him saying “Wow, amazing. Pueblo people are amazing. This is the city I moved to, the one that helps and love. Not what you see and hear on the news. We can overcome anything if we work together and
unite. This showed it, and when you have a strong loved leader like Matt Hessen all good things happen. Matt you and truly an angel to those in need ! God bless you and all the angels and saints. Be safe!!!”
His friend Derrick Estrada said, “So proud of you, Matt!!! This is remarkable and makes me have hope that our community recognizes what true “call to action” looks like. Thank you for setting an amazing example for people all over the world. Wishing you safe travels.”
Hessen is a realtor with Schwabe and Associates in Pueblo.
